What Can One Person Do?
I’m for everyone being free of preventable suffering and having
a decent standard of living. Solutions are urgently needed
to such problems as starvation, war and climate instability.
So…what can one person do?
Relevant literature tends to make the same basic recommendations:
- Shop and invest ethically, including buying Fairtrade items.
- Reduce carbon footprint.
- Support humanitarian and development organisations.
- Campaign with organisations such as Oxfam and WDM.
- Contact MPs, MEPs and companies about issues.
I believe if we want to contribute to social change and development,
we should not think of ourselves as “helpers” and others as “people being helped”
but of all as partners in a common task.
